Dr. J.D. Day is a board-certified neurosurgeon with more than 30 years of experience in neurological and spine surgery, as well as complex cranial pathology, and extensive experience serving as a medical expert in neurosurgical and spine-related litigation through medical expert consulting in the USA. He is nationally recognized for his clinical leadership, academic rigor, and ability to provide clear, objective, and defensible medical opinions in complex legal matters.

Dr. Day earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Washington School of Medicine and completed comprehensive postgraduate training in neurological and spinal surgery, followed by advanced fellowship training in cranial base surgery and neuroanatomy. His fellowship included specialized international training at the University of Vienna Medical School, where he focused on advanced skull base approaches and microsurgical anatomy. This depth of training underpins his ability to analyze highly technical cases involving the brain, spine, and cerebrovascular system.

Throughout his career, Dr. Day has held senior academic and leadership roles at major academic medical centers. He served for over a decade as Professor with Tenure and Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), where he also directed the neurosurgical residency training program and led the Neuroscience Service Line. In these roles, he was responsible for clinical governance, peer review, quality assurance, resident competency assessment, and departmental standards of care—experience directly relevant to medico-legal case analysis.

Dr. Day currently serves as Director of Neurosurgery at University Medical Center of El Paso, Texas, overseeing comprehensive neurosurgical services, and as Medical Director of Nexus Neuroscience, a program recognized by Healthgrades as a Top 100 Center for Spinal Surgery (2025–2026). His clinical practice includes the evaluation and treatment of traumatic brain and spine injuries, intracerebral hemorrhage, aneurysms, cerebrovascular malformations, brain and spinal tumors, degenerative spine disease, cauda equina syndrome, and minimally invasive spine procedures.

Dr. Day has an extensive scholarly record, including major neurosurgical textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and book chapters covering skull base surgery, neuro-oncology, cerebrovascular disease, and advanced surgical techniques. He has served as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator on nationally recognized clinical trials, including studies evaluating minimally invasive approaches to intracerebral hemorrhage and subcortical brain lesions.

As a malpractice expert witness, Dr. Day has reviewed and testified in numerous cases nationwide for both plaintiffs and defendants, including matters involving medical malpractice, personal injury, surgical complications, delayed diagnosis, standard-of-care analysis, causation, and damages.
